- Lindy Michie
was born in Dorset, England. Her paternal grandmother,
Anne Redpath, is one of the most well known and
best-loved Scottish painters of her time and her father,
Alastair Michie, has had a distinguished career as a
painter and sculptor. Lindy moved to Canada in 1974.
Although she has always sketched and dabbled in various
media, it was not until 1994 that she started to paint
seriously. The move to Vancouver Island was a return to
the rural environment where she felt happiest and most at
ease and, as a result, the desire to paint surfaced. A
highly developed sense of style and colour and a vigorous
use of paint characterize Lindy's work. Her canvases
arrest your attention and hold it captive with their
originality of subject and palette. Michie's artwork is
held in collections in Britain, Canada and the United
States.
Artist's
statement:
"As a child
I was immersed in a world of art and artists and came to
understand that inspiration could come from a grand
concept or a simple idea. I am influenced by my
surroundings, my garden, the people in my life, the gift
of flowers and the experience of travel. I strive for a
simplicity that expresses a strong sense of style without
the clutter of too much detail. I hope that my paintings
impart a sense of freedom from convention but remain
pleasing to the eye. "
